Mayor's Hike, Bike and Paddle - May 2012
We couldn't get over all the people and bikes that showed up to the Mayor's Hike, Bike and Paddle today! All sizes, ages, nationalities, old bikes, new bikes, recumbants, penny farthings, road bikes, BMX, hybrids, electrical assists, Dutch bikes - WOW, Louisville!
Andy Murphy of the Louisville Bicycle Club and Mayor Greg Fischer ride alongside the Big Four Bridge, which should be opening in the next year or so to bikes and pedestrians only.
Although Kentucky ranks 44th out of 50 states in bike friendliness, Louisville scored in the top 25 of "Best Bike Cities in the U.S." There's so much more work to be done, but with the enthusiasm of participants in events like this, it's easy to get excited and inspired.
Bicycling for Louisville is thrilled to be a partner with the Louisville Metro government as well as local businesses and other non-profits. We will work together to help Louisvillians utilize the bicycle as a safe, healthy and efficient means of transportation. Consider becoming a paying member of our organization so we can fulfill our mission of advocacy and education!
